Detailed CA Review:

CA AntiVirus Company once maintained two different lines of antivirus namely: VET and eTrust.  Currently, CA is supporting only CA AntiVirus Plus AntiSpyware.  The all new CA software provides you inclusive protection against viruses, Trojans and spywares.

ProsCA Likes:

User-friendly interface: The new user interface of CA AntiVirus Plus AntiSpyware 2009 is better than ever. The new unobtrusive interface is easy to use and the options that you are looking for are easy to find. Despite this innovation, expert users will be disappointed with the lack of options and customization that they can do with current software.

Quick installation: CA AntiVirus Plus CA AntiSpyware 2009 installs so fast and it saves hard drive space. This is because there isn’t much to install and there isn’t much files that need hard drive space.

ProsCA DisLikes:

Slows down computer speed: One of the biggest frustrations of CA users is that the software still slows down computer speed despite the fact that it is a very light application. Even though the antivirus is doing minimal work, it uses a lot of computer resources which slows down the computer. This is a big big big thumbs down because users need an antivirus that can protect their computer without hindering their daily computer activities. CA AntiVirus Plus AntiSpyware 2009 is a big failure in this aspect.

Daily virus definition updates: The needs of customers are increasing exponentially and a daily virus definition update offered by CA is not enough to meet these demands. Even though automatic daily virus definition updates are helpful, a full day is just too long to wait to get protection. Norton is offering pulse updates every 15 minutes! That is 96:1 virus definition update ratio.

Performance problems: One of the ways to measure the performance of an antivirus is to measure the amount of time added to the average boot time of a computer. CA added two full minutes to the boot time of my computer while Norton added just a quarter of a minute. In terms of browsing the internet, when CA is installed, it put a serious drag on the browser. It more than doubled my browsing duration. Considering that there are a lot of people who spend their entire day on the internet, CA appears like they are not giving much importance to their customers.

Horrible Antivirus Certifications: In the latest test from Virus Bulletin, it failed to earn the VB 100% award. CA doesn’t have certification from AV-Comparatives. AV-Test did test the product but CA rated very poor, the lowest rating, for on-demand detection of viruses and spyware. It also rated very poor for the product’s response time to new threats. And lastly for proactive detection, CA rated poor.

Unreliable computer protection: CA is unreliable in removing rootkits. Malwares were not removed from the computer and they were still able to launch. The suite also completely missed several Trojans. CA was able to wipe out a few malwares upon opening a folder containing them. Getting rid of a few is good, but the other alternatives to CA can do a lot better. CA’s antivirus and antispyware protection is too weak to protect your system. Other suites perform much, much better.

Phone support costs money: It is commendable that CA has an easy to use FAQ page but, the fact that phone support does cost money is unacceptable. CA is charging $19.95 per session of tech support!

ProsCA Bottom Line:

CA provokes an unimpressive response from these editors, as an antivirus protection product. There are other antivirus software packages that can do the job better for less cost, therefore we give it a low rating in our review.

Buy CA Antivirus Plus AntiSpyware for only $49.99 for 3 computers!
